REACH regulation came into application on June 1st, 2007, and since then the period of pre-registration has been opened. It will last until December 1st 2008. REACH stands for: Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals. What are the obligations associated with these new regulations ? REACH will amend regulations governing the labelling of our products. The aim is to ultimately use substances which respect human health and environment. The First Article summarizes the magnitude of the task: "It is up to manufacturors, importers and downstream users to make sure to put on the market or use substances that do not adversely affect human health and the environment. Its provisions are based on the precautionary principle. " The regulation states that each chemical produced in quantities exceeding 1 ton per year will have to be registered at the European Chemical Agency in Helsinki. Moreover the production, import and sale of such substances will be limited to "field of use" as defined in the registration dossier. SICOMIN, as a formulator, is considered in the meaning of REACH as a "downstream user".
Our priorities under REACH are:
-- Evaluating the security of our raw materials, both the substance and its manufacturor. In this respect we are regularly examining our suppliers on their progress and efforts to ensure the pre-registration of their molecules before December 1st 2008.
-- After that date, we will verify that all our raw materials have been recorded.
-- Beyond that, we will be able to identify all potential uses of our products with all our customers, and as such we have an obligation to come to you to ask you how you make use of our products and what are your exposure situations.

SICOMIN a été retenu par EADS-SOCATA pour le projet FUSCOMP, dans le cadre du pôle de compétitivité "Aérospace-Valley". FUSCOMP (pour FUSelage COMPosite) est un programme de recherche et de développement pour la conception d'un prototype démonstrateur de fuselage d'aéronef en composites.

Ce prototype, basé sur la cellule du TBM-850, sera développé en fonction du procédé d' INFUSION; le programme prévoyant en outre l'étude de nouveaux matériaux. Ce procédé, associé à des matériaux innovants, vise à diminuer les cycles de fabrication et leurs coûts, ainsi que ceux des matières premières, tout en s'affranchissant de l'emploi d'autoclaves. L'emploi de cette technologie est envisagé à la fois pour les futurs avions d' EADS-SOCATA, mais aussi pour des sous-ensembles destinés à la future génération d'avions de ligne comme l'A350 ou le futur NSR. Sans compter les avions de transport régionaux, les avions d'affaire, ou les hélicoptères. Dans ce projet, SICOMIN a pour mission de développer et formuler une nouvelle résine époxyde pour l'infusion, qui soit parfaitement adaptée tant aux contraintes du secteur aéronautique, qu'à un cahier des charges prévoyant entre-autres d'infuser le fuselage en une seule opération.”

Students of UTC (Technology University of Compiègne), have decided to apply their know-how and enhance their programme through the ONE BOAT FOR ALL association, in a daring technical project yet low cost and humanitarian.
With the university means the students have conceived and produced a 6.50 meter sailboat, manufactured in epoxy infusion over a male plug, enabling to take onboard handicaped people.
The sailboat will be managed by the university and social services of the Picardie region. SICOMIN is happy to give support to the project.
